Spider Web Crochet Pattern..for Tablecloths or Runners


**** NOTE:
following the web pattern...adjusting the beginning chain .....and watching carefully..this basic pattern can be made into the lovliest of tablecloths , made into dresser scarves or table runners.
It will be very simple to make this pattern wider..or much wider..and longer.
My rendition will be a long runner for my daughter in laws beautiful table... For the tablerunner..I will use just big spool crochet cotton...and a needle that will slide easily... my beginnings and pictures will follow soon...

** Materials:
For a 15 x 60"... will use 15 to 20 ounces lightweight crochet cotton..( No.6 ) ; and a size B crochet hook

Gauge is as follows: 28 dc and 15 rows to 4" over dc pattern worked on size B hook....

** Instructions:

Ch 103. Work in spider's web pat as follows:
Base Row:
1 dc in 4th ch from hook, 1 dc in each ch to end. Turn. 101 dc

1st Row:
Ch 3 to count as first dc, skip first dc, *1 dc in each of the next 2 dc, ch 5, (skip next 2 dc, 1 tr in next dc ) 3 times, ch 5, skip next 2 dc, 1 dc in next dc, rep from * to last dc, 1 dc in last dc, 1 dc in 3rd ch of ch-3. Turn.

2nd. Row:
Ch 3, skip first dc, * 1dc in each of next 2 dc, ch 4, skip next 4 ch, 1 sc in next ch, 1 sc in each of next 3 tr, 1 sc in next ch, ch 4, skip next 4 ch, 1 dc in next dc, rep from * to last 2 dc, 1 dc in last dc, 1 dc in 3rd of ch-3. Turn.

3rd. Row:
Ch 3, skip first dc, * 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, ch 5, skip next sc, 1 sc in each of next 3 sc, ch 5, skip next sc, 1 dc in next dc, repeat from * to last dc, 1 dc in last dc, 1 dc in 3rd of ch-3. Turn.

4th Row:
Ch 3, skip first dc, * 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, ( ch 2, 1 tr in next sc ) 3 times, ch 2, 1 dc in next dc, repeat from * to last dc, 1 dc in last dc, 1 dc in 3rd of ch-3. Turn.

5th Row:
Ch 3, skip first dc, * 1 dc in
each of next 2 dc, ( 2 dc in next ch-2 sp, 1 dc in next tr ) 3 times, 2 dc in next ch 2 sp, 1 dc in next dc, repeat from * to last dc, 1 dc in last dc, 1 dc in 3rd of ch-3. Turn.

First thru 5th rows form the pattern. continue in pattern until piece measures 58" from the beginning...ending with the 5th row pattern.

EDGING:
1st round:
Ch 3, 2 dc in top of last dc, 2 dc inserting hook in side of same dc. * 2 dc in side of next dc, repeat from * until next corner is reached, work 3 dc in ch at corner, 1 dc in each foundation ch, 3 dc in next corner, 2 dc in side of each dc on remaining side edge, 3 dc in top of dc at next corner,1 dc in each dc at top edge, join with a sl st to 3rd of ch-3 at beginning.
2nd. round:
Ch 3, 1 dc in each dc all around, working 3 dc in each corner stitch, join with a sl st to 3rd of ch-3 at beginning.
3rd. round:
Same as for round 2
Fasten off...and press under a dmap cloth with a warm iron.
Do not fasten off piece...but continue along side of piece for edging.
